These are the roughs that I am working with. They are based on City Repair's events and needs. The larger one will have the color placed in the street designs and possibly the text.

new poster idea

Here's what I'm thinking for my new poster direction. I'm working with paper cutouts that I have scanned in and then turned to vectors to keep the hand done look.

more posters and such

So here's the beginnings to my poster design:

I'm looking to merge the community of Portland with the actual map of the intersections that the Village Building Convergence is going to be working with. As I continue to work with the design, the people will be seamlessly be blended and abstracted into the design created by the map of Portland. The map will be filled with illustrations of the idea of 'community.' I would like the final version of this to be a woodblock/linolium print that is smaller and then blown up, allowing me to 'design' the text. That way, the smaller, actual size print can be used put up in the different communities with their specific dates and times that their neighborhood events will be taking place.

poster ideas/concepts

One idea I have is to work with the textures of pavement through rubbings and photographs.

I am thinking about creating a woodblock/stamp style poster that can be easily reproduced. I'd leave blank spaces for the dates, places, and times so they can be easily reproduced. I am considering this most because they run a lot of similar events, just in different locations. This way they can print as many as needed for the specific event, then save the block for later!

My concepts are going to be about intersections and people coming together. This will be shown through my own drawings and compter added text transfered and carved onto a woodblock. This also fits in with the idea of City Repair because they do everything by hand.

SOURCE STATEMENT (condensed brief)
City Repair inspires the communities and individuals of Portland, Oregon to transform the places they live in a creative, artistic, and ecological way to bring neighborhoods together. They call this placemaking. City Repair strives to reclaim urban spaces to create community-oriented places, to plant seeds for greater neighborhood communication, and to empower our communities and nurture our local culture through natural building, permaculture, and public art. City Repair began in Portland, Oregon with the idea that localization is a necessary foundation of sustainability. They host and/or partner with several events during the year, and work in neighborhoods across the city. City Repair’s ultimate goal is to create local community betterment and involvement. Their main audience is local Portlanders who volunteer their time and have pride in the communities in which they play an active roll. There is no specific income level, gender, age range or occupation for this audience. They must only want to better their surrounding communities and be willing to put time into their local projects.
